The City of Coffs Harbour is the Local Government Area (LGA) that administers the Coffs Harbour area. It is on the Pacific Highway, and the North Coast railway line.
At the 2006 Census the City's resident population was 64,910. The city has recently expanded to include the localities of Red Rock, Corindi and Upper Corindi, previously part of the former Pristine Waters LGA, the balance of which has been amalgamated into the Clarence Valley Council to the north. Since this amalgamation the Coffs Harbour LGA has expanded to cover 1,175 km2 (454 sq mi).
It also includes: Arrawarra, Woolgoolga, Sandy Beach, Emerald Beach, Moonee Beach, Korora, Nana Glen, Coramba, Karangi, Toormina, Sawtell and Bonville. Crossmaglen, Lowanna, Ulong, Corindi Beach, Red Rock Coffs Harbour's sister city is Sasebo, Japan.
On 9 May 2000 the Coffs Harbour City Council brought into effect the Coffs Harbour City Koala Plan of Management which was prepared to arrest the decline in koala numbers that has arisen from land clearing and habitat disturbance.
Unfortunately Koala habitat continues to be cleared because the plan isn't enforced by the council in spite of public protests. WIRES is always struggling to save Koalas caught crossing roads to find remaining suitable habitat.
